The annual Made in Maui County Festival is Maui’s most significant products show, celebrating locally made goods. Held over two days at Maui Arts & Cultural Center, this two-day festival showcases over 140 product vendors. Established in 2014 to support small business growth while simultaneously increasing Hawaiian goods value, visitors are educated on why purchasing locally is beneficial and encouraged to buy locally.
Not only do the vendors sell their products at this festival, but many also participate in workshops and presentations ranging from soapmaking to ukulele lessons, with classes on topics like sustainability and self-care practices as well. 4. Support the Maui Resilience Fund
The Maui Strong collection offers products designed to represent our community with pride and unity. Each item in this exclusive selection supports the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement’s Kakoo Maui fund, providing direct assistance for verified ohana who have lost homes due to fires. 100% of proceeds go directly towards supporting verified ohana who have experienced loss as a result of fires, making this an engaging way to show support.
Maui Hui Malama is working tirelessly to offer relief and respite for families affected by the fires, including meal delivery (3,000 per day), water distribution, basic-need supplies such as gas/grocery gift cards and family support days for children as well as counseling services to assist those experiencing trauma and grief. Additionally, counseling services are offered.
HI HOPES provides much-needed services and resources for current and recently aged-out foster youth affected by the fires, including current foster youth who were uprooted from their homes by these incidents. Due to its existing services, this organization can easily reach out to this population with more personalized attention and resources.
Maui Noeau’s Art with Heart: Maui Fire Relief Program is a free educational and creative arts program provided to Lahaina shelters, schools, and agencies serving affected communities to remove costs associated with fire relief efforts. Through Art with Heart, children can express themselves while simultaneously improving mental health and aiding in their healing journey.
The Sewing Hui of Maui has received requests from shelters for pillowcases that double as bags for children and wheelchair/walker bags for adults – providing families with an easy way to support their recovery needs. Funding will be used to purchase sewing supplies for this ongoing effort.
Roots Reborn is offering assistance to immigrant communities affected by fires who may be at a greater risk of falling through the cracks during recovery and response efforts. They will provide translation and advisory support services for insurance claims, disaster assistance grants, mortgage forbearance agreements, and other potential financial resources.
UVSC helps alleviate financial stresses associated with fighting cancer so cancer patients can concentrate their energies on fighting and living through it. With the funding from this grant, UVSC will expand its services for those displaced by fires in Lahaina and Upcountry.
