Bhojpuri is an Indo-Aryan language with borrowings from Hindi, Bengali, and other local dialects of its region. It is polysyllabic with many phonemes; many consonants may be geminated; there is also an alternation between aspirated and unaspirated consonants (such as “/t/”- “d/”).
Verbs can be marked for their tenses, aspects, voices, and moods. Verbs usually follow an ordinary word order of subject-object – verb, with adjectives coming after any nouns they modify and prepositions coming at the end of phrases; adjectives come before nouns they change, and prepositions appear at the end. A definite article can be attached as an appendix at the suffix or root, while indefinite articles are added onto either end. Genitive cases indicate plurality.
Nouns can take on different forms, from singular to plural or collective; their noun classes range from persons and things to relationships and collective forms such as sab log. Plural forms are created using the suffix na or ni, while collective forms include sabha and log (people). Bhojpuri differs from other Hindi dialects by having no gender distinction for nouns but still distinguishes masculine from feminine nouns; its vocabulary also features numerous words of Sanskrit origin while having less stringent grammar rules than its counterparts.
Numbers, fruits, vegetables, animals, and relatives are the most frequently spoken words in Korean. A great many loanwords from other languages – mainly English – exist as well. New learners may find it challenging to memorize all letters in the alphabet.
Bhojpuri is similar to other Hindi dialects in that it can be both intimate and casual when speaking among friends or family members yet highly formal when addressed to strangers or authority figures. There are multiple tiers of politeness: from casually intimate tum and intimate tohar polite yet informal elevated than legal more standard and even more formal ra’ur traditional to most formal Apke.
Bhojpuri is closely related to Maithili and Magadhi; these three languages together comprise what is known as the Bihari language group in the Eastern Indo-Aryan family, closely related to Bengali, Odia, Nepalese Fijian and South African dialects of Odia respectively. With over 50 million speakers spread across India alone, Nepal, Fiji, and South Africa also have large communities speaking this variety. Kaithi is its preferred script, while Devanagari remains the standard Hindi script as standard Hindi script for writing purposes.
Bihari language contains numerous idioms to describe different situations, some of the more popular being (koi sarkar, the hai), (maa ka dhi ne bhulaya nahi), and (hm think baani aap?
Not all messages need to be conveyed using idioms; phrases can also be used. For instance, in Bhojpuri, the term (aura) for you can be used to show respect towards elders, unlike in Hindi, where this term could refer to anyone.
